Fitness Tips For Beginners – Get Fit & Stay Fit
Today I want to share some fitness tips for beginners because I remember how intimidated I was when I began to workout. In fact, I went to the gym 5 or 6 times before I went in to find out about a membership. You see at that time I was overweight and did not feel good about walking into a gym where so many of the people there were in such overweight and did not feel good about walking into a gym where so many of the people there were in such great shape. It was not comfortable at all.
We do things for the pain we feel or the pleasure of the results. I was in pain in so many ways from being overweight and I knew I had to take action. That action step at the time was getting a membership t the local gym and getting started working out.

The very first thing you must do is to decide you will begin an exercise program. To help you keep on track with your fitness goals you must have a BIG WHY! Why do you want to exercise? Make your WHY as detailed and clear in your mind as well as on paper. It will make all the difference in the world as you begin! Go ahead and do that now.
Develop a fitness habit
Work out every day to form a healthy habit. Daily workouts no matter how small will keep you on track. In fact, I just read an article that stated we must do a thing for 60 days for it to become a habit. The good habit of exercise is no different. I find doing some physical activity every day not only keeps me on track with my good fitness habits, I find that I just feel better. Daily workouts no matter how small will keep you on track. Get A Coach
When you are starting out with your fitness program it is so important to get direction. You can hire a personal trainer, find an experienced (and I mean experienced) friend to help you or do your research to create an ideal workout plan that will meet your fitness goals and to learn how to do the exercises properly.
Have A Clear Goal And Start Where You Are
One of our best fitness tips for beginners is to advise you to start where you are and stay within your fitness level. You don’t want overreach and sabotage your efforts early on, choose workouts that match your level of fitness. I see this all the time. Individuals want to be everywhere except where they are at this moment. You need your mind and body to be in each workout. Do not focus on tomorrow’s training session today.
Don’t get stuck on the same fitness routine
As a beginner to fitness, you will want an 8-12 week program that will allow you to focus on the basics. Allowing yourself to get in the habit of good fitness, practice the skill of proper exercise technique and learn to enjoy your time exercising. Over time it will be a good idea to keep the body guessing by changing routines, intensity, and duration of workouts.
You’ve heard the quote – “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” – Peter Druker
The same this is true for our training. You MUST evaluate your progress and keep updating your workouts to meet new fitness levels. This is the only way you will improve and reach your goals. Write down every workout. This is so powerful and I would highly recommend getting into this habit.
Use Your Breath
Breathe mindfully during your workouts to improve performance. The simple way I learned to breathe is to exhale on the exertion of the exercise. Here is a great link to help with your breath in different exercises.
Power Workouts With Proper Nutrition
Power your workouts with proper nutrition to give the body the fuel it needs to perform and to feed muscle tissue for optimal growth following any workout.
Challenging exercises are the ones that advance your fitness levels. When exercise gets too easy it has little effect. Always work out within your limit and be sure to challenge yourself.
Get A Workout Buddy
A workout buddy will definitely keep you motivated and accountable. I know this because I was lucky enough to have a great workout buddy when I began going to a gym. I feel it was one the biggest reasons I stuck with it. We had fun and were there to help each other. Priceless!
Don’t get stuck on numbers
Tracking tools are great but focusing too much on them takes away from the excitement of exercise itself. The whole purpose of tracking is to see progress and yet you must find the balance between the numbers and the overall experience you are having on your fitness journey.
Never Neglect Your Diet
No matter how hard you work out what you eat still matters for lean muscle mass and weight loss. In my opinion, this point takes us all the way back to the top of this article. Being clear on you WHY will be a help in keeping you on track with what you eat.
What Motivates, Motivates
You’ve heard that quote before right? Each of us is different and we all require something different to get motivated and stay motivated. Check out the article I wrote about motivation a while back. There are certain tools you can use, like music to motivate your movement and power your workouts. However, I feel that again being very clear on your WHY is the strongest long-term motivation you can give yourself.
Hot Bath After Your Power Workouts
Take a hot bath to alleviate post-workout muscle soreness. An extra special hot bath would be to add Epsom salts and essential oil.
Don’t Give Up!
Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I will try again tomorrow.‘ -Mary Anne Radmacher, American author a, d artist
Remind yourself regularly of what motivates you to get and stay fit.
